You failed to mention the limitations of a good book.
That every day is sfsame day of judgment and that you should live your life accordingly and do the work of Man. He also had some great things to say about women which some people might find too old fashioned but I liked it. He suggests that women ought to avoid theology and frivolous novels but that fits with his earlier lecture on wasted reading. The accompanying essays place Sesame and Lilies within historical debates on men, women, culture, and the family.

Ruskin definitely has some hard-hitting things to say about literature, reading, and making good use of one’s time. In England it was heavily informed by a nostalgia for the feudal era, as in Rosetti’s paintings.
I found them quite interesting.
Their views on this seem extremely similar: I appreciate the Arts and Crafts movement, of which Ruskin is a prime mover. I relish these sorts of thoughts about reading strategies.
