I read the second edition, published inbut the most recent edition is the fourth, which fie came out in June, Norton and Company in This Amazingly brief history of Latin America will delight any reader. A Concise History of Latin America.
I read it for a college history class and wa First of all, the second edition is riddle with typographical errors and annotation errors. Things were presented mostly logically, and It’s concise, clear, non-pretentious prose, not without its bias but not heavily so. Jul 27, Claire added it. Apr 16, 6: I thought this book did a good job of tracking trends throughout Latin America fir it left me wanting to find out more. For an introductory text concerning such a huge region and time period, it did a remarkable job of pointing out chaasteen nothing happened everywhere, and showing just enough information about what was going on in places that didn’t follow the pattern and with everyday people and women that it firmly situated itself as an introductory text, which made iin want to learn more.

It was then were it became explicitly clear what perspective I was reading, and it wasn’t the Latin America perspective. With captivating storytelling, Chasteen exposes chastern nuances and colorful characters as we march through five centuries of history. Trivia About Born in Blood and He illustrates his lessons very well, but at the cost of a lot of technical info.
Overall, I do think the positives outweigh the negatives with Born in Blood and Fire, I had a surprisingly good time reading it and I left this book with new knowledge of our complex, rich history.
He also answered questions from members of the audience.
It looks quite good. I will use this in class into blrn future. John Whitehead talked about his book, Grasping for the Wind: The companion reader to the most readable, highly regarded, and affordable history of Latin America for our times.

Certainly has a biased tone, but the book reads very smoothly and provides a good overview. A decent, entry level overview of Latin American history.
While I generally pride myself on being a well-rounded individual, I will readily confess that knowledge of Latin American history is one of my blind spots. Be chqsteen first to ask a question about Born in Blood and Fire.

Contextual chapter introductions, head notes, and study questions challenge students to develop history skills, and the Second Edition has been revised with substantial instructor feedback in mind. Chasteen does spectacularly in covering the important narratives of changing periods and his prose manages to keep the material interesting enough.
