Earliest surviving manuscript score from c. Cecilia’s Day HWV Overture published in HG volume 48 p. Libretto by Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili. For soprano, two-part violins, basso continuo. It is tentatively assigned to the violin in the HHAhowever the ayleford is also a possibility.


First performed with “Athalia” HWV Probably completed in Hamburg or Italy. Identified in piecea year at the Royal Academy of Music ‘s library London. Probably the earliest concerto in the Op. Might have been composed in Halle, Revised for the wedding of Princess Mary. The autographed manuscript, located in the Fitzwilliam Museum, does not mention instrumentation, nor are there tempo markings for the movements.

Handel’s earliest datable composition. A pasticcio opera containing music by Handel and performed by the “Middlesex” opera company named after Lord Middlesex. Water Music, Aylezford Variant No 2. His oratorio Messiahwith its “Hallelujah” chorus, is among the most famous Baroque works and is a popular choice for performances during the Christmas season.

Single source is from a manuscript of organ voluntaries; probably authentic, though the text of final bars is defective. The second two movements were borrowed from the Organ Concerto in F hansel, HWVand the minuet and allegro fugue from the overture to Imeneo.

Not part of the Suite de piece in B-flat major.
